The city is filled with cultural offerings on the weekend, when on Friday 9.9. let's first celebrate the Night of the Arts and on Sunday, the official Riihimäki day, 11.9. let's celebrate the city of Riihimäki.

"The night of the arts has already become a tradition for the entire city, which takes over Riihimäki every year in September. It offers a great range of art and cultural events organized by the city's citizens and the city's own operators," says Lyti Aaltonen, the city's culture producer.

This year, the whole family should head to the city's museums, which have programs especially for children. In addition, the program includes children's movies in the library or open and free workshops for the whole family. During the evening, there are numerous dance shows, music shows, work shows, exhibitions and performances in different parts of the city.

The program designed for young people can be found at the Youth Center Monari, where you can make your own music or try instruments on board the Rytmireka. Funk On ry's Graffiti painters guide in the graffiti workshop and you can try boffing, i.e. medieval fencing with modern comforts with soft swords, in Monari's hall.

For adults, the program includes music in local restaurants and a movie at Kino Sampo. During the evening, you can come and get to know the city's strategy, when people from the city's management team and the new city manager, Jouni Eho, can be met at Granit Square. In addition, the day's discussions and programs are also held at the party tents of the various parties.

The cultural and event services of the city of Riihimäki are responsible for the coordination and joint marketing of the night of the arts.

The program produced on Riihimäki Day focuses on the courtyard of the city museum. The Open Stage held by the Riihimäki Society invites you to perform on the museum's courtyard stage.

"The nature of the Open Stage includes a bit of the idea of ​​going with the flow, even if it's still in the middle of the event, i.e. without pre-registration. However, registering in advance is a guarantee that you will definitely be able to participate in the performance," says Ville Heikkilä from the Riihimäki club.

The afternoon day dances are danced by the Municipal Boys on the museum's dance stage. Finally, the tug of war will be held in the traditional Hyvinkää–Riihimäki match organized by the Riihimäki club. The event will be opened by the chairman of the city council, Miia Nahkuri, and the keynote speaker will be Päivi Katila, chairman of the Riihimäki club. The Pippurit group of folk dancers from Riihimäki will perform at the event.

On Riihimäki Day, you can also take part in an architecture walk or try free dance lessons. During the day, there is free access to the Finnish Forestry Museum, the Finnish Museum of Glass, the Riihimäki Art Museum and the city museum, as well as the Riihimäki swimming pool.
