The boldest move of the summer? A super popular winter classic at Miina Montu Summer Theatre

This coming summer, Miina Montu Summer Theatre will be presenting a wonderful, warm-hearted comedy, The Full Monty – right up to the pin. It is based on the British comedy film that premiered in 1997. Full Monty is the tenth consecutive summer theatre production by beloved director Sanna Saarela at Miina Montu.

The Miina Montu Summer Theatre surprises with its beauty. It is located in the middle of an idyllic rural landscape in Turkhauda. The 500-seat covered cultural arena offers a high-quality summer theatre experience with all the delights, as the theatre recently built a new sound system and an induction loop for hearing aids.

This year's comedy play is directed by Sanna Saarela has been indulging in it for years. Now he digs out of his back pocket for the first time the version of the Ysäri classic that premiered last summer; fresh straight to the stage of the small village of Hausjärvi. This summer, even the director can't keep his pants on!

“Although the play is set in England during the depression of the 1990s, it could be any factory town in modern-day Finland. Being left out of working life gnaws at the feeling of whether I matter at all. Stripping everything down on stage is not just a way to get butter on your bread, it is also about becoming visible. The play is above all a story about friendship, survival and the courage to face your own fears together. Humor acts as a protective shield, and all the shades of life can be found in the holiday of laughter,” Saarela says.

In the comedy, two unemployed laborers decide to solve their money problems by starting a show dance group. They start recruiting bigger personalities than each other. There shouldn't be a shortage of talent in a town where most of the men are unemployed after the closure of the steel mill, right?

The Full Monty – a laugh-out-loud comedy with fast-paced dialogue, sharp situations, and recognizably human characters, it also tackles topical themes: unemployment, feelings of being an outsider, and how to measure one's worth in a world where success seems to be the measure of everything.

Background information about the play

The Full Monty – Up to the Pin is based on the British comedy film that premiered in 1997. The film has also been adapted into a musical, Pants Off. The version seen in Miina Montu is a stage dramatization by the film's screenwriter. The play closely follows the original film, which has been voted one of the best films of all time many times. The play was translated into Finnish by Juha Siltanen in 2024, and its premiere was seen in Orimattila in the summer of 2025.
