Aino-Maija Metsola – Fabrics, illustrations and works at Riihimäki Art Museum 13.4.–15.9.2024

Aino-Maija Metsola's (b. 1983) solo exhibition at the Riihimäki Art Museum is a broad cross-section of the work of the versatile designer, illustrator and artist. Metsola is known for her numerous printed fabric designs, but in addition to these, the exhibition comprehensively highlights sketches, original designs, illustrations and works of art.

Aino-Maija Metsola lives and works in Helsinki in Suomenlinna. Metsola, who graduated from the University of Applied Arts in 2008, has designed more than a hundred patterns for Marimekko's fabrics, clothes, tableware and interior design products since 2006. His best-known works include the patterns Jurmo, Midsummer Day, Napakettu and Ilves, as well as the Sääpäiväkirja collection. In addition, Metsola has created patterns for, among other things, Aarika's spring 2024 collection.

Metsola has illustrated several Finnish and foreign children's books, such as the Learning Garden book series published by the publishing house Wide Eyed Editions and spread to several continents. He has also created cover art for, among other things, reprints of Virginia Woolf's works (2016–2022), for the illustration of which he received the V&A Illustration Award from the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2017. Metsola's patterns, illustrations and paintings have been widely exhibited both in Finland and abroad.

The ensemble on view now continues the Riihimäki Art Museum's series of exhibitions, which focuses on the intersections of art, pattern design and design, and the dialogue between them.
