The majestic Samo route of Luutaharju
Admiring the diversity of nature is possible on the easy-to-navigate Luutaharjun Samo walking trail, which leads the Samo walker through ancient forest and varied ridge terrain. The water of small ponds sparkles and nature embraces you.
There are elevation changes on the Samo route, but the approximately six-kilometer route is not challenging. The circular route starts from the parking area of the Komio Nature Reserve.
At the beginning of the route, you can see Lukkolampi, which is slowly disappearing due to swamping. The journey continues towards Komionvuori, where you can see magnificent landscapes. After that, the path takes you to the natural Luutasuo. On the bog section, you don't have to wade ankle-deep in water, but rather along boardwalks, which can be slippery after rain. After that, the bog landscape changes to the wilderness of Luutalammi. Built-in stairs make it easier to walk on the steepest ridges.
Despite the pain, the route runs comfortably and softly on paths covered in pine needles. The Samo trail ends back at the starting point at the parking lot.
There are information boards along the path that tell in a fun and detailed way about the nature of the area, shaped by the ice age, and its fauna and flora.
A campfire site and toilets can be found along the route. What could be nicer than sitting down, eating a snack and listening to the hum of the trees! The route is marked with orange signs and there are Samo signposts at the intersections.
The municipality of Loppe has invested in barrier-free movement in nature, and Samo also has a barrier-free section. It is a kilometer-long route built of crushed stone and a layer of rock ash. The path is over a meter wide. At the beginning of the route, a downhill slope leads towards the shore. From the crushed stone path, you reach a barrier-free bridge, followed by a resting place. The route continues as a crushed stone path to the forest road and finally winds back to the parking lot. The barrier-free route is demanding and it is good to have a mobility aid that is suitable for the terrain. An assistant may also be necessary in some places.
Luutaharjun Samo is part of the Poronpolku hiking trail, which is 28 kilometers long.
