Traditional dishes of Hausjärvi

In the 1980s, "porkkanabaakkelssit" and "kuutelot" were named as the traditional dishes of Hausjärvi.

Kuutelo and puolukkaserpa

A traditional dish from Hausjärvi, where all the ingredients are mixed by hand and fried in a hot pan. According to 1900th-century instructions, kuutelo was made from skimmed milk, barley flour, salt and rendered pork fat. Kuutelo resembles a pancake.

Kuutelo was a popular food among young people in the old days, when malt was dried in the autumn in the kilns. Kuutelo was eaten with lingonberry puree. The drink of choice was either milk or “puolukkaserpa”, which is lingonberry puree mixed with water.
